Kishtwar, Oct 31: Gopal Ashtami, a festival dedicated to the service of cows, was celebrated with religious fervour. A number of functions were held at various Places of the town yesterday. The Shri Gau Raksha Simiti held a function that was attended by Ashok Kotwal President Sanatan Dharm Shaba Bhadarwah, Satish Kotwal Zila Pradhan Vishv Hindu Parishad,Kuldeep Singh Zila Pradhan Shri Gau Raksha Simiti,Sunil Sharma Zila Pradhan Hindu Jagran Manch,Amresh Kotwal Mandal Pradhan Shri Gau Raksha Simiti Bhalla. Addressing the function Satish Kotwal said it was unfortunate that hungry stray cows were roaming in the town, raking up garbage in search of food. Citizens should provide these cows with shelter. He said the sabha should build a huge 'gaushala' here that could fulfill the milk requirement of the town. Ashok Kotwal President Sanatan Dharm Shaba Bhadarwah highlighting the significance of the day said that on this day Bhagwan Krishana sought the permission of his mother to go to jungle for grazing cows. This day falls on eighth-day of Kartik, the Bikrami Samvat. He said the cow is also called Gow Mata because like a human being she also nourishes the child in its womb for nine months; her milk is like nectar to human beings. It gives us Pannch Gavya e g. five precious products like Milk, Dahi, Ghee, Gow Mutra and dung which are most useful to mankind. |
