Amidst heart wrenching scenes, body of trucker brought to native village

BARAMULLA, Oct 31: Soon after the dead body of the truck driver, killed in UP the previous day was brought to his native village of Pehliharan Sheeri in district Baramulla, sister of the deceased attempted to end her life by consuming some poisonous substance, while as shopkeepers downed their shutters, men and women in thousands came on roads to register their protest. The incident had triggered massive protests in the area with people alleging that the deceased was murdered in Gorukhpur district of Uttar Pradesh.According to sources that Family members and relatives of a truck driver, who was allegedly murdered by two motorcycles assailants in the Gorukhpur district of Uttar Pradesh area yesterday. Protesters blocked the Baramulla- Muzaffarabad national highway near Sheeri area for about three hours, demanded a thorough probe into the incident and registration of a murder case against the killers, sources said.The deceased was identified as Altaf Ahmad Sheikh 25, son of Late Ghulam Mohiuddin Sheikh, resident of Pahli Haran Sheeri in Baramulla district. Jammu and Kashmir police has brought dead body of the deceased from Utter Pradesh under mysterious circumstances. Early times have learnt from Media sources that a team of doctors has conducted postmortem in Utter Pradesh and later handed over the body of Altaf Sheikh to the Jammu and Kashmir Police.Today, the family members along with residents of Pheliharan Sheeri, kept the body of the truck driver in the middle of the Srinagar- Muzaffarabad highway near Sheeri and blocked the traffic. According to media reports that a truck driver identified as Altaf Ahmad Shiekh, had left for Bihar along with his brother in his fruit-laden truck on October 17. Besides the truck of Altaf, two more fruit laden trucks were accompanying him from Kashmir including one from Amargarh Sopore and went jointly to Bihar.According to media sources that, "they reached there at 6:30 pm on National Highway in Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh.
"We stopped our trucks and three of us went to nearby Transport office and to get some water. Altaf started to clean the trucks and in the meanwhile, two persons on a motor-cycle appeared on the highway fired a bullet which hit Altaf and he instantly fell down, Bilal had said.
It was learnt that Bilal had given some water to Altaf and they moved injured driver to Gorakhpur district hospital but after 30 minutes he succumbed. However they had informed the police and they also rushed to the spot. Meanwhile, Police Station of Beli Par has registered an FIR 410/2014 under 302 IPC, and has started investigations and has questioned Bilal, who is an eyewitness in Altaf's killing.
