Sopore, Oct 31 : Police have arrested a sarpanch for his alleged involvement in the circulation of threatening posters on behalf of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militant outfit in the volatile Sopore town of Baramulla. The posters had surfaced at several places in Sopore town before Eid-ul-Azha, warning over 31 persons by name against liasoning with police and mainstream parties. Police sources said soon after these posters were discovered, cops questioned several shopkeepers in the area, who have put up Xerox machines. The inquiries hinted at the alleged involvement of sarpanch Tanvir Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Hassan of Dooru, Sopore, in the preparation and circulation of HM posters, the sources added. Acting on these inputs, cops of special operation group (SOG) of police raided the sarpanch's house and arrested him. "Soon after his arrest, police raided his computer shop and seized various computers, printers and other electronic gadgets," sources said and added that investigation in the case was going on and more arrests were on cards. During his questioning, the sarpanch was alleged to have confessed to his involvement in the preparation and distribution of HM threat letters at various places in the town, the sources added. |
