RAJOURI, Oct 31: Ensuing Assembly election process has made every district officer including Deputy Commissioner busy in making the election process successful. This has pushed the issue of flash flood victims in the corner and many such victims have been claiming that they are not getting free ration as promised by the State Government.
Inhabitants of Kotranka and Budhal tehsils held a protest at Kotranka and alleged that CA&PD officials including Tehsil Supply Officer reportedly have dumped the supply of ration in the store at Kotranka and people are forced to purchase ratio from open market on triple rates.
"On one hand we have been facing the unkindness of the nature and on the other hand CA&PD officials making us to live on their mercy. They have dumped the free as well as PDS ration in the stores and not distributing among the beneficiaries for the reasons best known to Tehsil Supply Officer " said a resident of Kotranka seeking anonymity as the TSO has been harassing him for the leakage of information of dumped ration .
Inhabitants of Kotranka and Kandi held a protest at Kotranka on Thursday and alleged that they have not been provided ration through Public Distribution System (PDS) for the last more than two months and the CA&PD officials have dumped about 2800 qtls of rice and 1352 qlts of Atta in CA&PD store at Kotranka.
Landslides and flash floods had damaged many houses in Budhal and Kotranka tehsils and hundreds of people were effected in this natural calamity.
The flash flood victims also alleged that they have not been provided free ration till Thursday and are forced to purchase ration on higher prices from the market.
Badar Din, Budhal sarpanch; Shabir sarpanch of Kewal; Kotranka sarpanch , Abdul Qayoom, Wazit , and many others said that the department has also not provided sugar for the last more than 6 months and now it has stopped rice and Atta also.
When contacted Sukhpal Singh, SDM , Kotranka said that the department has been supplying free ration systematically and area wise as per the lists provided by the district administration.
"There is no shortage of ration but some restrictions have been imposed as everybody ( even those who were not affected ) claiming for free ration despite the fact that there name don't figures in the lists of the beneficiaries" said SDM .
He admitted some crises as the names of some actual beneficiaries are missing from the lists and the officials have been asked to re-verify the lists and the process is time consuming and assured justice to the victims.
As the flood victims are suffering a lot in the absence of free ration, they demanded immediate APL supply against payment so that they may not forced to purchase Sugar, Atta and rice at more than triple rates in the open market.
SDM had also called the concerned Tehsil Supply Officer (TSO) on Thursday after the cries by the people and directed him to streamline the PDS. Inhabitants of Manjakot tehsil, Dhanor Gorsian, Jawahar Nagar and other areas also alleged that the names of actual beneficiaries are missing from the lists while the name of blue eyed were added by the concerned Revenue officials . In this connection they met with Deputy Commissioner and apprised him about their problems.
