BARAMULLA, Nov 17: NC legislator and party candidate from Sopore, Haji Mohammad Ashraf has finally bent his knees by appealing to hardliner separatist Syed Ali Shah Geelani to reconsider his poll boycott call in Sopore assembly constituency of Baramulla. According to sources, Ashraf has said that it would be a major setback for Geelani if Sopore assembly seat, with the support of migrant voters, is bagged by BJP. “NC legislator has appealed Geelani to reconsider his poll boycott call in Sopore. I have great regard for him. He is an influential leader and people do support him by heart. Major portions of Sopore boycott elections on his call,” sources said, quoting him. Ashraf said, “It is obvious that election boycott in Sopore will help BJP. There is no denying in the fact that people follow Geelani’s diktats in letter and spirit.” “Once people vote, BJP will disappear from the scene,” he said. The NC candidate hoped that this time people would vote to check the rise of BJP in the valley. “I have been in constant touch with the migrant voters who mostly belongs to BomaiSopore. I hope they will vote for me,” he said. In Baramulla district there are total no of electors 583753 in which male voters are 305085 and female are 278651, where as in Sopore assembly constituency number of registered electors is 101958, in which male electors are 53253 and female are 48705 and in Baramulla district there are total number of migrant electors 8956. It is pertinent to mention here that in third phase of assembly election, seven assembly constituencies of Baramulla district, Uri, Rafiabad, Sopore, Sangrama, Baramulla, Gulmarag, and Pattan will go for polls on December 09. |
