Early Times Report

Udhampur, Nov 20: With the issuance of notification for second phase of polling all attention is now being focused on Udhampur and Reasi districts which will goes to poll in the second phase of Assembly elections on December 2.
According to press release, with the issuance of notification and withdrawal of nomination on 17 November political activities have gear up in twin districts .
There are six assembly segments in Udhampur and Reasi district that will form a part of the polling process during second phase on 2nd December in the Jammu division. The second phase here will test the political fortunes of several sitting MLAs and ministers in both the district .The Udhampur and Reasi districts comprise of six assembly segments, three in each district. These are Udhampur, Ramnagar and Chenani in the former, while the latter has Reasi, Gulabgarh and Gool-Arnas.Interestingly, other than the national political parties, the Panthers Party and the people democratic party , too, have considerable stakes in the region. During the past assembly elections, the Panthers Party had won two , one BJP , two congress and one by national conference out of the six assembly seats in these two districts .Elections in these two districts are expected to be contested on the issue of development and Modi wave. The BJP, which is expecting to cash in on the latter, is yet to make any significant dent in Udhampur district. Incidentally, Udhampur district was once considered to be a strong BJP hold, but this time rather than benefiting from the Modi wave , the party has failed to make any significant impact on the voters yet as two senior party leaders which include sitting legislator of BJP from Reasi Baldev Raj Gupta and State Secy Pawan Gupta from udhampur have deserted party and are contesting as independent after denial of mandates from party high command . Though, the BJP has put up candidates on all six constituencies but deserted from party can spoil the show .
It may be mentioned that BJP ,Congress ,NC and JKNPP has already announced its party candidates for forthcoming assembly elections going to be held on 2nd. Two sitting MLAs of JKNPP Balwant singh Mankotia and Harshdev Singh who were considered to be in formidable positions in their constituencies in the previous election are also facing incumbency factor and Modi wave on account of interaction with people and developmental activities in their constituencies. Political activity in the region is expected to heat up over the coming days as the political parties are hoping to bring in national leaders to boost the win ability of their candidates keeping in mind the possibility of no clear majority for any party.
