NC's KP leadership insignificant troupe, just 'Political Bakras'
11/20/2014 11:23:58 PM

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 20: Call them what you may but community members of displaced Kashmiri Pandits have coined 'Political bakras' and 'power stooges' as two terms for so-called Kashmiri Pandit leaders of National Conference, which was neither assigned any significant party post nor given a Ministerial portfolio for the last six years.
Yet they call themselves 'loyalists of National Conference (NC)' and are these days working round the clock to see that at least some Pandits vote for the grand old party. This is despite knowing well that the party for the last six years not even bothered to take Kashmiri Pandits on board. Their so-called leaders were kept on the fringes and not allowed to even demand representation in the Council of Ministers.
They were not even considered for heading boards, corporations and other similar institutions. Ask for reasons and observers would tell you that denigration of Kashmiri Pandit leadership in National Conference (NC) has more to do with the existing lot of middle and low ring leaders readily accepting the posts offered to them without even weighing worth of these positions politically.
Academician-turned-politician Anil Dhar, who handles now-a-days completely missing grievance cell of NC at its party headquarter in Jammu, is one such Kashmiri Pandit leader. Observers maintain that Dhar accepted the assignment of running the grievance cell with a political novice from erstwhile District Doda Iqbal Wani, who is more known for being younger brother of Congress leader Abdul Majeed Wani and son-in-law of Dr. Mehboob Beg.
Sources added that Dhar readily agreed and with Iqbal Wani got a room inside the Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan to run this grievance cell. They maintained that Dhar neither objected nor asked the party leadership to explain reasons for what outsiders and even his own community members termed as demotion. Wani who was elevated by Provincial President of NC Devinder Singh Rana outwitted Dhar and was likely to get mandate from Inderwal, had Choudhary Salamdin's mentor Khalid Najeeb Suhrawardhy not prevailed over the leadership of NC.
Wani, according to members of Youth National Conference (YNC) members would spend most of his time travelling and looking after his business interests while Dhar would spend whole day listening to grievances. Ironically, observers especially Kashmiri Pandits accept that Wani's elevation came despite not making many efforts while Dhar was made part of grievance cell after having spent more than half of his life in NC and claiming to be close to top brass in the party.
Youth NC leaders further say that Dhar is known as Rana loyalist yet he was forced to accept a seemingly insignificant party position and that too with someone whose political career has just started. They added that this position was offered to him despite party knowing well that not even one Kashmiri Pandit was accommodated either in the party rank and file nor was this community given even minimal representation in the Ministerial quota of NC.
Dhar kept walking alongside Rana without even realizing for a single second that he had not only been denigrated but forced to share an irrelevant position with a newcomer to the party, maintain the Kashmiri Pandit community leaders. They accept that Dhar should have refused to accept this irrelevant position but he preferred not to for the reasons best known to him. Even these days, party leaders told Early Times that Dhar is looking after defunct grievance cell while Wani, whose father-in-law Dr. Mehboob Beg is now a PDP man, is missing from the scene.
A close source said that Dhar is neither concerned about denigration nor is likely to raise a banner of revolt. A Kashmiri Pandit leader close to Dhar said "He is not a KP leader but a political stooge of NC. He is in the party for his interests and hence, he has no reason to lodge protest or seek post commensurate to whatever qualification he has. Community is unlikely to heed to pleas of these so-called leaders. NC will not get KP votes this time, come what may."
