'Invalid' degree holders inducted in faculty of Engineering at SMVD University

Jammu, Nov 20: Flouting all norms laid down by the UGC, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) Katra, has recruited invalid degree holders as Assistant Professors in its various faculties.
Well placed sources told Early Times that norms and regulations of UGC have been thrown to winds, considering the recognition to the Master's Degrees in respect of three teachers working as lecturers in School of Architecture and Landscape Design (SALD) at SMVDU Katra.
"Abhiney Gupta, Anoop Sharma, Abhimanyu Sharma trio working as lecturers in SALD are reportedly holding invalid degrees. All these lecturers have acquired Master's Degree (M. Arch) from Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) Nashik, though study centre at Gateway College of Architecture & Design, Sonipat Haryana", sources claimed, adding that like past, Prof Jain was not able to do justice to the UGC norms establishing the validity and sanctity of recognized educational qualification.
"Sumeet Gupta joined SMVDU April 28, 2005 as Assistant Professor in grade of Rs 12000-42-18300, with starting basic as Rs 13,260. He also managed to get three advance increments based on M. Tech Degree obtained from Allahabad Agriculture Institute (Deemed University) though distance education mode in August 2004", sources said, adding that the appointment of Sumeet Gupta had been made altering norms, as he was not falling under AICTE norms.
"As per AICTE norms the eligibility criteria applicable at that time (2005) for the post in Engineering and Technology was Ph.D. degree with the first class at Bachelor's or Master's level in the appropriate branch of Engineering/ Technology with 2 years Experience in Teaching, Industry/ Research at the level of lecturer or equivalent", sources said, adding that the blue candidate was not eligible for the post, he has been holding.
They further said Sumeet Gupta was allowed to officiate as HOD/ Director School of Electronics and Communication with senior Associate Professor having Ph.D working under his administrative control, as per the desire of Prof SK Jain, Vice Chancellor of the University.
"Under any circumstance, the deemed universities shall not conduct any course(s) under distance mode without the specific prior approval of UGC-AICTE-DEC joint committee. The degrees awarded without the prior approval of the joint committee will be treated as unauthorized and invalid", third paragraph of letter written by Joint Secretary, UGC, Dr KP Singh to Vice Chancellor/Director All Deemed Universities dated June 11, 2009 read.
