Winning start by Punjab boys, girls in league round
DGP declares open School Games in Badminton

JAMMU, Nov 21: Director General of J&K Police (DGP), K Rajendra Kumar today inaugurated the five-day long 60th National School Games in under- 14 (boys and girls) Badminton in a colourful function held at University of Jammu (JU) grounds, here.
The chief guest took salute of the participating contingents amidst colourful cultural programme. Impressed with the drill by Manipur teams, the DGP announced a cash prize worth Rs 1000.
Speaking to the gathering, the DGP wished success to the teams in the competition ahead amidst appreciations for the organizers, Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) for holding mega event in the state.
Earlier, chairman of the organising committee, Director General, DYSS, Navin Agarwal welcomed the chief guest and those participating teams. He disclosed that the event, in fact, was meant for Summer Capital, Srinagar but had to be shifted to Jammu due to devastation caused by the floods. He also appreciated the participants from far flung states like Kerla, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and newly created Tilangana for the spirit.
Among others present were ADGP Armed, Law and Order, SM Sahai, MD Police Housing Corporation, Dilbagh Singh, IGP Jammu, Rajesh Kumar, DIG, Shakeel Ahmed Beigh, SSP, Uttam Chand, State Commissioner Bharat Scouts and Guides, ID Soni, Deputy Directors, DYSS, Kanchan Bala and Haji Mirza Hussain.
Meanwhile, as per the laid down fixture, J&K boys and girls have been placed in group-H with both the opening league matches scheduled for late this evening.
In boys section, J&K has been pitted against Chhattisgarh, Daman Diu and Odisha while girls shall be playing against Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and West Bengal in league round.
However, when last results were filed, Punjab had already won both their league engagements in boys and girls sections.
The Detailed (League) Results:
GIRLS: Maharastra beat Manipur 2-0: Sumit bt Maheshwari 30-11; Malvika and Simran Singh bt Maheshwari and Jaebanlata 30-14.
Punjab beat Uttrakhand 2-0: Noor bt Arti 30-22; Noor and Saumye bt Arti and Ashwariya 30-29.
CBSC beat Andhra Pradesh 2-0: Riya bt M Laksa 30-18; Riya and Aashi bt M Laksa and Tejaswani 30-09.
Haryana beat Puducherry 2-1: Nikita lost to Kevpriya 26-30; Shavani bt Amirtha 30-24; Nikita and Mahima bt Kavipriya and Agnus 30-29.
Assam beat Karnatka 2-1: Sumiraj Kumari lost to Nikita 28-30; Debahuti and Raj Kumari bt Nikita and Niyati 30-17; Debahuti bt Niyati 30-20.
Rajasthan beat West Bengal 2-0: Seema bt Mandrita 30-25; Seema and Sejal bt Mandrita and Dimitre 30-15.
Gujarat beat Tilangana 2-1: Nupur bt Keyuru-M 30-29; Nupur and Janhvi lost to Swetha and Bhargavi 24-30; Janhvi bt Bhargavi 30-20.
BOYS: Delhi beat Uttrakhand 2-0: Manan bt Akshat Verma 20-15; Manan and Sidhant bt Parshant Rawat and Akshat Verma 30-10.
Uttar Pradesh beat Vidya Bharti 2-0: Chandan Yadhav of UP bt Raj Shakhar 30-16; Anuj Singh and Piyush Raj Gupta bt Raj Shakher and Anirudha Ojha 30-27.
Punjab beat NVS 2-0: Jewesh Khanna of Punjab bt Johan Yousf of NVS 30-08; Jewesh Khanna and Parth Soni of Punjab bt Yousf and Mohd. Imroz of NVS 30-15.
