BJP's mission +44 has unnerved Congress
11/21/2014 11:02:55 PM

The BJPs' mission +44 seems to have
unnerved the Congress.It has
ununerved the NC and the PDP.Why so ?The Congress believes that the BJP could achieve its mission as it succeeded in gaining power in Haryana and Maharashtra in the recent Assembly elections.
Yes,the state is yet to witness Modi wave even when in some parts of Jammu region. People are heard singing Na Mo,Na Mo.In the May last Lok Sabha election there was no Modi wave in the Kashmir valley but there were visible traces of Modi's magic in the regions of Jammu and Ladakh which enabled the BJP to ,hitherto never performed, bag all the three Lok Sabha seats. It was the PDP that trounced the National Conference in the Kashmir valley and the Congress was mauled by the BJP in the regions of Jammu and Ladakh during the Lok Sabha election. One continues to be pessimistic about BJP achieving its +44 mission because for gaining even simple majority a party has to conquer the minds of people, rather voters,in the valley of Kashmir which has 46 seats against 37 in the region of Jammu and four in Ladakh. This way the 46 seats in the Valley can be a decisive factor for any party to gain or regain power. In fact the Congress worry stems from its fears that the BJP may scuttle chances of the Congress for being a Government maker which title it had earned since 2002 Assembly election.Despite the fact that the Congress had won 20 seats, majority of them from the Jammu region,in 2002 election it forged an alliance with the PDP for giving the state its first coalition Government. In 2008 poll the Congress, which had won 17 seats, formed the Government in alliance with the National Conference. On both the occasions the Congress could share power with either the PDP or with the National Conference only because it had won majority of seats from the Jammu region. This time it faces a major challenge from the BJP.Despite factionalism in the BJP its candidates expect a cake walk win only because of Modi who has assumed bigger political stature and strength in the region of Jammu and Ladakh. If the Congress fails to win 10 seats from the Jammu region it may not be able to share power either with the PDP or with the National Conference.Since the Congress sharing power is as much impossible as PDP sharing power with the National Conference. This way if the BJP wins more seats than the Congress it can explore the possibility of sharing power with either NC or the PDP. It is in this context that the Congress leadership has started targeting the BJP more than the NC and the PDP.It believes that berating the BJP could help it in gaining the support of some sections of voters in the Kashmir valley where the PDP is already ahead of the NC and the Congress. Apprehending tough fight from the BJP the Congress leaders, including Ambika Soni, have started ridiculing the BJP on its +44 mission saying that the Saffron brigade will never achieve the mission.Again in order to woo voters in the Kashmir valley Ambika Soni has blamed the BJP for raking up Article 370 issue simply to keep the RSS in good humour. What a strange argument ? The BJP leadership has already clarified its stand on Article 370 saying that its abrogation is neither its poll plank nor its agenda for the time being. The Congress leaders in Jammu and Kashmir have started supporting the demand for withdrawal of AFSPA when the same leaders were, prior to the announcement of the poll schedule, were heard opposed to its withdrawal.Even the Congress led UPA Government had rejected Omar Abdullah's demand for AFSPA withdrawal for the last six years.Dr Jitendra Singh,Union Minister, has stated that the issue related to AFSPA falls within the ambit of the Army and the security forces. The Government has to take on board the Army before taking any decision on withdrawal of AFSPA. This Congress need not be blamed for hitting the BJP right and left because everything is fair in love and election.
