Geelani takes U-turn, forgets poll boycott asks people to stay away from BJP
Double Standards!

Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 21: After preaching poll-boycott and calling all the mainstream parties as two faces of the same coin, the Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani has finally sided with Kashmir based parties and has asked people to stay away from Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP). He has appealed Muslim clerics to make people aware about what he called "evil designs" of BJP and their "anti-Islam ideology."
Indirectly Geelani has asked people to vote for regional parties to ensure that BJP is kept at bay. Just a few days before Geelani had said that it would hardly make difference if BJP comes into power in JK but suddenly he has taken a U-turn and has asked people to beware of the BJP. What made him change his stand so fast is a million dollar question which he only can answer. Sources told Early Times that a few NC leaders had sent their emissaries to Geelani and had got it conveyed to him that if BJP comes into power he may have to cool his heels either within his house or in jail. The NC candidate from north Kashmir's volatile Sopore area had appealed the Hurriyat hawk to reconsider his poll boycott call as he had claimed that Geelani's call would pave the way for BJP's victory in Geelani's home constituency and it would be a humiliation for the secessionist elements.
The NC candidate had praised Geelani and had called him the "leader of masses." Insiders said that emissaries sent by the regional parties have convinced the Hurriyat hawk to reconsider his call.
Soon after the emissaries persuaded Geelani to soften his stand, the Hurriyat hawk issued a hard hitting statement against BJP. "With all its power, money and material, BJP is trying hard to make an entry into the state. And for this they, with the help of some stooges from Kashmir and outside state, are carrying their election campaign. We warn our people against their evil designs and ask them to be cautious and beware of BJP which is using religion as a tool and is hell-bent to exploit religious sentiments," Geelani said in a statement.
Sources said that leaders of a few regional parties have got it conveyed to Geelani that if he supports them indirectly in the forthcoming polls they would allow him to carry on with his activities. Growing popularity of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his pledge to turn Jammu and Kashmir into a model state has unnerved Geelani. He also knows it very well that India after a long time is being led by a strong leader who believes in delivering and is not interested in wasting time by holding futile talks and setting up committees. "Since the day Modi has taken over the top post separatists and separatism in Kashmir have become irrelevant. If BJP enters Kashmir it would be a big setback for those who are preaching secessionism," opined an observer.
Geelani has exposed himself and his double standards by asking people to stay away from BJP. On one hand he is preaching boycott and on the other he is asking people to prevent BJP from entering into Kashmir. It's clearly evident with whom he has sided. One needs to ask Geelani if all the mainstream parties are same then why he has issued a fatwa only against BJP. It looks like that hardliner has realized that his boycott call has no takers and if he sticks to his stand he may face humiliation as people want to exercise their franchise to elect such people who can really represent them. People in Kashmir have realized that separatists have taken them for a ride for the past 22-years. People don't want to waste their time anymore that is why they don't pay heed to the statements and the frequent strike calls issued by the Hurriyat hawk. Kashmiris have understood if they want to prosper they have to become a part of the system rather than staying out of it.
