BJP's 44+ plan could be spoiled by Valley voters?
11/22/2014 12:14:54 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 21: Despite its all out effort to push 44+ plan for J&K State Assembly elections 2014, the BJP might finish well short of its expected numbers because of the fact that the party might not be able to add more a seat or two from the Valley.
There is definitely a perceptible edge for the BJP in the Jammu region that sends 37 members to the 87-member State Assembly while the Valley elects 46 and the Ladakh region four members.
In the four districts of Jammu, Samba, Kathua and Reasi the BJP is expected to well during the elections and the gains for the party are likely to be direct losses for the Congress and the NC.
There are six seats in the Chenab valley region of Jammu province and it is likely the BJP which would also make some gains there that would be again at the cost of the Congress.
In the Muslim dominated districts of Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri and Poonch the BJP is eyeing many seats those might not be fully achieved because of many reasons. The direct battle for Muslim votes would definitely give an edge to the BJP, but would the vote share polled in favour of the BJP translate into seats or not needs to be closely watched.
In contrast to its expected gains in the Jammu province the BJP is not likely to get enough seats in the Valley to fulfil its 44+ election agenda for J&K.
The anti-incumbency factor and the other reasons those are believed to reduce the seat share of the NC are likely to go in favour of the PDP rather than the BJP in the Valley. This is going to be a big stumbling block for the BJP in the realization of its 44+ election plan.
Except for the Habba Kadal Assembly seat which has over 16000 registered Kashmir Pandit migrant votes, the BJP does not appear to be comfortably placed anywhere else in the Valley although it has fielded candidates for all the seats in the Valley and elsewhere in the state.
If the BJP does not get at least three to four seats in the Valley and two seats in the Jammu region, its 44+ plan would not be realized despite the hype created by the party in the state and elsewhere in the country.
