Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 22: The Prime Minister Narendra Modi's new found love for Kashmir and total neglect of Jammu while addressing an election rally at Kishtwar today, BJP dropping the slogan of abrogating Article 370 and taking a U-turn on its policy of not promoting dynastic politics by giving mandate to the brother of sitting MP has proved the critics right that party always pursues hidden agendas.
The BJP's complete changeover in JK was in full bloom at Kishtwar today as Prime Minister Narendra Modi during BJP's election rally didn't utter a single word for the development and progress of Jammu province or its people perhaps forgetting the fact that geographically Kishtwar is part of Jammu region for which BJP claims that it is the only party which safeguards the interests of Jammuites.
However, Modi's address of about forty minutes hardly had any reference of Jammu instead he kept on harping for Kashmir and Kashmiris giving an impression that he is addressing a rally in Kashmir province.
The focus of Modi's speech was Kashmir only as he used phrases like "I have come to wipe tears of Kashmir," which again portrays a picture where Kashmir is and will be at the centre stage for BJP too.
It was same Modi who during his campaign trail for Lok Sabha elections six months ago had vociferously said that the people of Jammu had suffered due to constant bias of Kashmir-centric parties but now when he failed to give any assurance to Jammu and its people there is hardly any difference between BJP and other parties who give preferential treatment to Kashmir at the cost of Jammu province which is facing neglect and discrimination for the past more than sixty-five years as claimed by BJP leadership whenever and wherever it suits them.
In an attempt to form its own government in the northern most state of the country for the first time, the BJP which always remained particular throughout its political journey till date to rake up the issue of abrogating Article 370, which provides special status to JK, this election is not only evading queries of media persons on Article 370 but is also avoiding to bring up anything related to the issue in its campaign or election rallies which indicates that BJP is also following Kashmir appeasement policy to attain power.
Raising pitch for abrogating Article 370 was once a favorite poll plank of the BJP. However, in this election the BJP and its leadership is totally silent on Article 370 probably due to its negligible presence in Kashmir region where the saffron party is desperately trying to make inroads. Sensing that there is stiff opposition to repealing of Article 370 in the Valley, the BJP think tank believes that it is wise to keep the issue on back burner for the time being.
The BJP's deviation from its path could be gauged from the fact that its state vice-president Ramesh Arora on November 19 said that BJP won't press for abrogation of Article 370 of the constitution, which gives special status to J&K, if people of the state want it to stay.
The doublespeak on dynastic politics by the BJP is also out in the open as by its own yardstick, the ruling party at the centre has taken a contradictory stand by giving party mandate from Nagrota Assembly segment to younger brother of BJP's state unit president Jugal Kishore Sharma, who is also a sitting Lok Sabha Member from Jammu-Poonch parliamentary seat.
It seems that the selection of Nand Kishore as BJP candidate from Nagrota Assembly constituency doesn't come under the ambit of encouraging dynastic politics while the saffron party has some another unique method to measure which party is promoting dynasties and which are not.
