370 refraining BJP from releasing its manifesto | | | Masood Malik
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 23 : Party leadership's deliberated stand down on its stated position on article 370 has refrained state BJP from releasing its manifesto document which insiders reveal has been finalized and printed by the state unit. Sources in the party revealed that party high command barred the state leadership from releasing the manifesto because it, among other important issues, also talks about Article 370" and the High command believes that the release of the prepared manifesto could annoy the people of Kashmir. They said, "the party first decided to release manifesto on November 15 and then on November 20 but the intervention of the party high command scuttled the move on both these occasions". Insiders further reveal that many in the party are unhappy over the manner in which the high command has diluted its old stand on Article 370 and their view is that dilution of its stand on Article 370 could alienate the minority communities like Kashmiri Hindus, Ladakhi Buddhists, Jammu Hindus and refugees from West Pakistan, Scheduled Castes and Other Backward Classes. "The BJP is playing with the sentiments of its supporters by diluting its stand on Article 370," the credible sources in the party have revealed on the condition of anonymity. During the last few days, senior party leaders and ministers have spoken differently on Article 370. On 11 November MoS PMO Jintendra Singh said in New Delhi that "all issues, including Article 370, which have been part of the BJP manifesto all these years, will be part of the agenda. They will continue to be so." In Paddar (Kishwar), he spoke differently on 19 November. "It is debatable. BJP's stand is clear. There is no need to rake up this issue during the Assembly polls," he was quoted as saying. On the very same day, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said the same thing. He said, "It is a debatable issue". "All we want is discussion," he said. At Leh on November 20, Rajnath Singh criticized Article 370 and said it hampered developmental processes in the state. The people of Ladakh failed to get UT status also because of Article 370," he also said at Leh. On November 22, Rajnath Singh said there was no need to make Article 370 an election issue. Earlier, BJP national president Amit Shah had talked about full integration. These contradictory stands have confused the general population with many of them questioning the intentions of the BJP. It would be in the fitness of things if the BJP makes its stand clear on Article 370. The Jammu and Kashmir watchers have expressed the view that the "BJP's shifting stand on Article 370 will harm it in Jammu and Ladakh" and "not help it in Kashmir either". |
