BJP grapples with problems as campaigning ends for 1st phase
PM's Kishtwar rally mismanaged; Kashmir candidates fail to hit the ground

Assembly Elections

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Nov 23: As the poll campaigning for the first phase of elections, slated to be held on November 25, ended today, the Bharatiya Janta Party, which had created hype about it emerging as the number one party in the state is grappling with problems.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing a rally at Kishtwar in Jammu region on Saturday exposed the state BJP leadership to the hilt.
Sources told Early Times the BJP top brass has taken a serious note about how the rally was managed. "The Prime Minister's Office had informed BJP's state unit one week before about PM arriving in the hilly town to address the rally. Despite having ample time BJP leaders failed to manage the show," sources said.
They said that people who had come from far-flung areas to attend PM's rally were left to fend for themselves as security personnel didn't allow them to carry either water or any other eatables with them.
Organizers despite knowing the security constraints failed to make any arrangement for the participants and they left the venue fuming.
On the other hand media men, who had reached Kishtwar to cover the rally, were not attended by the BJP leaders and they had to struggle to get inside the venue. "It was a total flop show and depicted how confused the BJP leadership is," said a source.
He said the Prime Minister ignoring Jammu in his speech and repeating that JK Assembly has a 5-year term too has embarrassed the BJP leadership. "It seems no one from Jammu and Kashmir had briefed the PM about the topography of the area and about the fact that JK is the only state in India where Assembly's term lasts for six years," the source added.
Pertinently, since the day election campaigning has kicked off in Jammu and Kashmir BJP leaders and candidates have failed to make their presence felt on the ground, at least in Kashmir. The BJP election campaign in the Valley has been confined to press notes as their candidates have preferred to sit in their cozy office chambers hoping that press statements only would make them accomplish Party's Mission 44 plus. Chaos and confusion have been ruling the roost. Party having no prominent faces and good orators has proved to be the biggest drawback for the BJP.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "It seems BJP leaders in Kashmir have conceded defeat even before the election process has started. We haven't seen any big rallies of the party in Ganderbal and Bandipora areas, where polling would be held on November 25. One wonders why they had created hype about Mission 44 plus if they knew that they are on a weak wicket in the Valley."
Many people are of the opinion that BJP couldn't do much in Kashmir before the first phase of the five phased JK assembly elections. "Their state leaders are totally dependent on their star campaigners and are hoping that their magic would work and they would emerge victorious. They are day dreaming but unfortunately their dreams are set to be shattered within a month," said a political observer.
