BARAMULLA, Nov 23 : Prior to upcoming assembly elections in north Kashmir, Army's 46 Rashtriya Rifles in collaboration with Special Operation Group, Jammu and Kashmir police, busted a militant's hideout in Baison forests of Hajibal area in Baramulla district of North Kashmir on Sunday. A senior government official told early times that, "on a specific intelligence, a joint search operation was carried out by Army's 46 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) Special Operation Group (SOG) and Jammu and Kashmir Police in Basion forests of Hajibal area of Baramulla district on Sunday. Official said that our brave soldiers achieved major success when they busted a militant hideout in Hajibal area and recovered large quantity of arms and ammunition. "After the extensive two hours search, government forces discovered a militant's hideout, from which a large quantity of Arms, ammunition and other war like store was recovered from the site, senior official said. During the search, a militant hideout was busted and huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered, which includes Sniper Rifle 01, Magazine 01, Sniper sights 02, Automat Kalashnikov (AK) -47 Magazine 05, AK ammunition 132 and Belted ammunition, Pistol 02. There are some heavy war like store ammunition which were recovered like Under-Barrel Grenade Launchers (UBGL) 02, UBGL Grenades 23, Hand Grenade 18, Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) 06, Disposable Rocket Launcher 02, Radio Sets 04, Explosive approximately 100 grams, 1 pouch, Aircel Sim cards 02, Army Combat Uniforms 02, 01 old bag, Bombs 02, Combat Dress 02, Assorted and beltedammunition. The weapons recovered from the hideout were in good working conditions and not rusty. The hideout seems to have been used by transient terrorists as a safe hiding place and the destruction of same will further enhance the safe environs of fringe areas of Baramulla town and it is a major setback to terrorists in Baramulla district, official added. However a senior official said that the recovery of Army's Combat uniform indicates that the militants were planning to carry out the attacks in upcoming assembly elections in Baramulla district which is scheduled to be held in the second week of December. "Interestingly the terrorists would have been using the hideout, and the arms and ammunition must have been stored for carrying out anti-national activities in north Kashmir. Meanwhile there is no news of arrest of militants from the area, and the search operation was still going on so that there might be some hiding militants in the nearby forests, sources maintained. |
