BUDGAM, Nov 23 : The claim of J&K Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) chief that the party has distanced itself from the assembly elections has no takers in the valley as the people contest this by saying that the JeI rank and file is significantly contributing to this democratic exercise. "The persons who very recently joined PDP from Budgam district are actually the JeI cadres. People of the district say that the claim of the party head is far from the reality," said Khazir Mohammad of Radbugh. Some elderly people of at Galwanpora argued that the people, who joined the mainstream very recently, stand registered as workers in the party language. The rank and file of the party, as per these people, is showing utmost interest in the election process which is most likely affect the final outcome. "It is interesting to mention here that the workers of the party who joined the mainstream just some days before live in the vicinity of the Wadwan village where from the Ameer Jammat hails. Before issuing such a statement, he should have taken the ground realities into the consideration," said Mohammad Ashraf of Dadina. "When he doesn't know as to what is happening on his home ground, how he came with a statement that his followers have decided to distance themselves away from elections. It clearly speaks volumes about the JeI double standards and that is why such parties have lost the credibility in the state, particularly in the valley," said Abdul Majeed of Sangam. Majeed claimed that he had got the names of Jammat workers who had joined the mainstream from the district because all this was published in a local daily. Majeed said JeI chief's statement was aimed at cover ups because the people have decided to say no to the politics of opportunism. There are many others who have the same opinion saying that till yesterday these religious minded played their part behind the screen and now they are actively participating in the elections though without naming their own candidates, which the political observers believe is going to help the cause of election this time. "Whatever is driving these people to take part in the election related activities this time, it is for sure to pave way for the lasting peace in the valley provided the infamous election of the 1987 is not repeated," said Fayaz Ahmad from Narbal.
