Does Rana really believe in democracy? | | | Early Times Report
NAGROTA, Nov 23 : National Conference Provincial President for Jammu, Devender Singh Rana today delivered a lecture democracy at Nagrota. "In democracy, people are not only the real fountain of power but they are also the stake holders in development and governance", he said. A question arises. Does Rana really believe in it? The way he has acted during the past six years and the way he silenced his opponents especially in Jammu speak volumes about his `belief' in democracy and democratic values. During the 2010 agitation, the NC leaders including some seniors thanked the stone pelters for launching the agitation because it saved them from what they called Rana onslaught. Rana `suffocated' the leaders to such an extent that most of them considered quitting the party. He was also accused of `whispering' to Omar against party members. Rana said action speaks louder than words. Yes actions speak louder and that is exactly what Rana has been making clear for the past six years. In this state people have never been `fountain of power' especially during NC regimes. The NC regimes have always made use of the stick. Carrot was never in their menu. |
