Srinagar, Nov 25 : Even though the night temperature has improved, there is a forecast for more trouble from November 27 as rain and snow is likely in Jammu and Kashmir, where a Western Disturbance (WD) is approaching. However, the day temperature dropped due to cloudy weather in the Kashmir valley, where icy cold winds, coupled with frequent and unscheduled power cuts and icy cold winds continued. A Met department spokesperson said here this afternoon that the weather will remain mainly dry during the next 24 hours in the state. However, on November 27 there could be isolated rain or snow during the subsequent four days, he said. Kargil and Leh in Ladakh region, where polling is on in four Assembly constituencies of Leh, Kargil, Nubra and Zanaskar since this morning, continued to freeze due to sub-zero temperature. Met spokesperson said Kargil with minus 9.2 degree minimum temperature remained coldest in the region though it was a notch above normal against yesterday when it was minus 10.5 degree. At Leh it was 7.6 degree, Met spokesperson said adding that water bodies, including lakes remained frozen. The improvement in the night temperature was as a result of cloudy weather, he said, adding that the day will now become colder due to cloudy sky. There was some improvement in the night temperature in Kashmir, where mercury has dropped during the day. Met spokesperson said Pahalgam, a health resort in south Kashmir remained coldest with minus 1.8 degree against yesterday's minus 4.4 degree while at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg recorded minus 0.2 degree against minus 1.8 degree recorded yesterday. Minimum temperature at Qazigund and Kokernag in south Kashmir witnessed below normal temperature though it has witnessed some improvement during the past 24 hours. However, border district of Kupwara recorded one degree above normal temperature, he said. After witnessing two degree below normal temperature during the day yesterday, there was an improvement in the minimum temperature in summer capital, Srinagar. It was 1.4 degree, which was a notch above normal, first time during the past one week. This Met spokesperson said, was due to cloudy sky during the night. He said the sky would be partly cloudy with mist in the morning and evening hours during the next 24 hours in the city. Both maximum and minimum temperatures would drop during the period, he said |
