Early Times Report

Doda, Nov 25 : Doda seems to have apparently voted for a change for better and prosperous future.
Six assembly constituencies in Doda region including Doda, Kishtwar, Bhaderwah, Inderwal, Ramban and Banihal recorded voter turnout in excess of 60 % in first phase of assembly elections on Tuesday.
Fed up with unfulfilled promises, age old infrastructure, nonexistent employment avenues, lack of proper healthcare have forced voters in all the six assembly constituencies in Doda region to go for a change.
After casting votes more than eight times in his life, Sansar Chand(65) a former employee of state forest department while coming out of the polling station at Batote has accused outgoing representative of cheating and falling to keep of the poll promises.
I am expecting that the new government will address our burning issues which found no attention in last six years. I want to see development in my area and effective measures to check unemployment.
Also have voted for change, Amri Devi (35) a house maker of Ramgarh from has accused previous dispensation of doing little to improve life standards.
However, Amri said that when there with number of issues being faced by public and it is not possible for a new representative to address all of them. However, even if that individual makes sincere effort will to good enough for us.
Uma Devi (56) a house make of Assar have also voted for change as in her view it has given her a tool to change the outgoing representative who had become complacent in her view.
"Our area is one of the most neglected regions, while the focus remained only on Jammu and Srinagar cities only. Successive governments paid little heed to our sufferings. Now, we hope that new formation will be more considerate to our area", she said.
Falil Singh (25) a daily wager of Trungal slammed previous governments of promoting nepotism.
"Only the party workers and kin of the past representatives tasted development while majority of population is still deprived of basic amenities since Independence.
People still did not have access to basic drinking water. We are 20 years backward as compared to other parts of the state", he said.
"I had voted for change in recently held parliamentary elections and have voted in the same way this time as well. We have started witnessing positive changes in the centre and we shall see same in J&K as well" he added.
Casting her franchise for the second the main issues according to Naoureen(22) a graduate from Doda, are the employment of educated youth and more avenues in higher education.
"Also there should be separate Women College in Doda. Very scanty job avenues force youth to move to Jammu. Also in Doda there is huge shortage of doctors and in case of emergency the patients then are shifted to Jammu which is 180 kilometres from here. Of course I have voted for change and better future", she said.
Idress Ahmed (35) a businessman of Doda wants holistic development of the region as it should not be limited to few people.
"We want change and improvement in infrastructure especially in far-flung areas of the region and entire system is corrupt", he said.
This time the voting percentage will rise in respect to last time.
It is primarily due to decline in militancy and desire for change", he added.
He lamented, "There is not even first-aid facility in the villages, leave doctors there are not even nurses in Primary Health Centres of the region. Also there should be communal harmony in the region.
