PDP proved 'how to bring accountability, transparency' in governance: Mufti | 'During PDP regime J&K became first state in country to constitute strong anti-draft institutions' | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 25: Reiterating his resolve to institutionalize transparency and accountability in the governance, patron of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said that in its tenure of just three years PDP had proved how to deliver a good, effective and corruption free governance to the people. He said that PDP had shown the way for strengthening democratic and constitutional institutions in the State by initiating various revolutionary steps during its short span in the power. Addressing series of public meetings in R S Pura, Suchetgarh Samba, Chenani, Udhampur and Gandhi Nagar assembly segments in support of party candidates, Mufti reminded the people that his government had equipped the people with required law to wage war against corruption and nib this evil in the bud. "We empowered people legally to scan the government functionaries from Chief Minister to the lowest ranking official by constituting State Accountability Commission (SAC)", he said, adding, "This was the first strong anti-corruption initiative taken by any government in the whole country". He also reminded the people during its tenure PDP had provided a corruption free transparent system to the people. Similarly the RTI Act was passed by the State legislature in 2004 where as at the national level RTI law was passed in 2005. PDP Patron Mufti Sayeed said that it was all due to the good governance of PDP that peoples' faith in democratic institutions was restored and there was political stability in the State during the tenure of PDP led regime. "PDP led regime had set an example of good governance in the J&K by providing a corruption free accountable system to the people", he said and recalled that during PDP led regime more than 70,000 Rehbar-e-Talim (ReT) teachers were appointed. Similarly more than 40000 Anganwari workers were also appointed but not even a single case of favourtism and nepotism was highlighted. Recalling the worst situation prevailing in the State before formation of PDP government in 2002, PDP patron observed that to pull the State out of the morass of corruption, it got wallowed during the tenure National Conference from 1996 to 2002, was a difficult task. "We concentrated on the issue through a different angle of involving people and strengthening the institutions as a right medium to curb the menace of corruption", he said. At Samba and R S Pura, Mufti highlighted miseries being faced by the border residents and reminded the people that it was only during the regime of PDP that there was complete calm and peace on the borders from Kathua to Kargil. He said that a new chapter of friendship and trust in India Pakistan relations was written with the initiatives of the then Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee during PDP led regime. Exuding confidence that PDP was going to form government in J&K with thumping majority, Mufti said "PDP is the only alternative before the people of Jammu and Kashmir because all other parties are exposed before the people for their double standard", he said. Responding to the demands of locals at R S Pura, Mufti promised that PDP, if voted to power, would convince the Central government for one time settlement of the refugees' problem. He also promised to wave off tariff of water pumps installed in border belt for irrigation. |
