5 floriculture deptt vehicles lying unused | 3 cold storage vans, 2 tractor-trolleys purchased for Rs 50 lakh 2 years back | | G S Asgotra
Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 25: Three mobile cold storage vans and two tractor-trolleys of floriculture department have been lying unused at Green-Belt Park, Gandhi Nagar, for the past about two years. These vehicles were purchased by the department for nearly Rs 50 lakh, according to official sources. Sources said the vehicles, which had been gathering dust at Green-Belt Park, were purchased by the department for collecting flowers from adjoining districts and to selling them in the proposed Flower Mandi, which was to be established at Gandhi Nagar. "For the last nearly two years, we are guarding these vehicles but it is a bit difficult for us to keep an eye on them during night. We need to exercise extra alert at night as thieves had already stolen taps from the park. Three mobile cold store vans (JK02BF/1563, JK02BF/1564 and JK02BF/1565) were purchased by the department under a centrally sponsored scheme for providing facilities to Jammu farmers but after two years the department concerned has been failed to develop flower Mandi and utilize these vans. "Dry cow dung is also a cause of threat because it catches fire easily. Fire had broken out due to electric short-circuit a few days back. The cow dung could have caught fire had it not been extinguished on time. Had the fire spread, it could have burnt the vehicles," the sources added. Due to the inordinate delay caused in establishing the flower market, the costly machinery was gathering dust, sources said. |
