Early Times Report

Srinagar, Nov 25: Once known as Jamat-i-islami hub and abode of dreaded stone pelters, saloora and Barsoo areas of Central Kahsmir's Ganderbal District witnessed brisk polling. Saloora, where people would boycott polls today witnessed massive polling with people voting for `change'. "I am voting first time in 45 years , I won't reveal my identity but I too feel that if we want to change the system, we need to vote instead making castles in the air. I also don't want to comment what voting has to do with kashmir issue, please," said Ghulam Mohi-ud-din. Locals while talking to Early Times said that Saloora was traditionally known for anti India and boycott politics as most of the people were associated with Jamaat-i-Islami, a socio-religious and political group of J&K. Locals said that successive governments failed at all the fronts. They could not even provide basic facilities which include, drinking water, road connectivity, power and employment to educated youth so these and many other pertaining issues forced them to vote and choose their candidates. Barsoo, another village just five kilometers away from Saloora too witnessed brisk polling for the first time ever since militancy broke out in Jammu and Kashmir. Like many other areas of Kashmir according to locals Barsoo was also considered An abode of stone pelters where electioneering was not possible but today lanes and by lanes of Barsoo wore a different look where people without fear and chaos came out and voted for their candidates including men and woman.
