Soz emulates Farooq over Article 370
11/26/2014 10:39:00 PM

After the National Conference lead-
ership had voiced its frustration over
the possible defeat of the party in the ongoing Assembly election,it is now the turn of the state unit of the Congress to make last minute efforts for wooing voters in the Kashmir valley. The art of wooing voters is being practiced by both the NC and the Congress on the altar of Article 370.Even when Dr Farooq Abdullah was the Union Minister he had stated that the state's accesison with India will end the day Article 370 was abrogated. He had gone to the extent of saying that accession and Article 370 were linked together and if the later constitutional provision was repealed it would make accession of the state with rest of the country null and void. And at that time there were rumblings within the Congress circles in the state. And now the PCC Chief, Saifuddin Soz,has emulated Farooq Abdullah by saying that constitutional link between Jammu and Kashmir and India will end once Article 370,that grants special status to the state within the union of India, was abrogated. Soz has said Jammu and Kashmir will lose its relation with the Union of India if BJP scraps Article 370 of Indian Constitution. He admitted that delimitation of Assembly constituencies would be the Congress party's major poll plank in the upcoming polls stating that the state is "witnessing huge imbalance" of assembly seats Soz while releasing the party's election manifesto said BJP can't scrap Article 370. "The Article 370 of Indian constitution provides special status to JK. If this Article is abrogated as claimed by BJP, JK will fall apart from the rest of India," he said. "The special status of JK is a bridge between India and JK. If this bridge falls, relation would be over."Soz, however, said BJP won't succeed in its designs of rolling back Article 370. "They say lot but do very little," he said. The State Congress chief said BJP would face humiliating defeat in JK. "I am sure that people of JK would not side with a party having communal agenda," he said. He alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi doesn't represent BJP but RSS. "He is following RSS diktat," said Soz. "I challenge Modi to scrap the Article 370." What is significant about Soz's statement is that for the last six years or so he had never talked about Article 370.If it was the case why has he remembered Article 370 now and that too during the election period ?It is a clear case of his eye on election and he seems to believe that by raising his voice against the BJP's plan on Article 370 the Congress would be able to win a sizeable number of seats from the Kashmir valley where majority of people are opposed to abrogation of Article 370. One argument could be in favour of Soz's timing for voicing his views on Article 370.He seems to have been awakened from his deep slumber by the BJP's so called move to abrogate Article 370.Hitherto,there has been no such plan in the mind of the BJP leadership.Yes majority of BJP's top brass is in favour of a debate on the issue so that it could be determined whether the special status had proved beneficial for the people or otherwise. In case it was established that Article 370 had been beneficial it would not be tampered with.Whether Soz or Farooq or Omar Abdullah or Mufti Mohd.Sayeed,or Mehbooba Mufti all of them believe that Article 370,if retained,is a guarantee for increased central financial assistance to Jammu and Kashmir. It is a misnomer if these leaders nurse such views or beliefs.Well anything is fair in not only in love and war but aso in poll process. If Soz and Farooq or Mufti rants over Article 370 it may bring them votes but ultimately it may sow the seeds of separatism.
