Kajaria tile company booked for deceiving consumers | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 26: Department of Legal Metrology Consumer Protection (LMCP) has booked the company manufacturing Kajaria floor tiles for allegedly deceiving consumers. Acting on the complaint of Bhagwan Dass of Sainik Colony, an LMCP team today conducted inspection of the showroom of the Kajaria company dealer at Channi Himmat and booked the company under relevant law enforced for the purpose for not marking mandatory declaration for the information of consumers. According to LMCP deputy controller Manoj Prabhakar, Dass purchased Kajaria floor tiles worth about Rs 79,000. While giving finishing touch, he found discrepancies in shade and immediately brought the matter to the notice of the company dealer who, on visiting the site, gave assurance of compensation. Later, on the frequent follow up, Dass could not get any relief and subsequently he lodged a complaint with the department for sale of defective goods and unfair trade practice under consumer protection Act 1987 along with submission that the mandatory declaration on the label regarding MRP is not legible. The department under relevant law conducted inspection on the 2nd part of the complaint and found that the mandatory declarations on the packaged tiles were either missing or were not legible. All such deceptive packages were seized and sale of such packages of tiles was stopped till rectification was done by the company. Meanwhile, a case was registered against the management of the company for further proceedings in the appropriate court of law in the interest of justice, official sources said. |
