After BJP, mandate selling allegations rocks Congress also | Ex-Minister publically alleged selling of party tickets | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 26: After mandate selling issue rocked disciplined BJP, now it is turn of Congress to face the same allegations. After polling of first phase of assembly elections were held, former minister and Congress leader, Choudhary Garu Ram, who had recently joined PDP, had charged his party leadership with selling mandate. In the presence of former Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Choudhary Garu Ram in a function at Suchetgarh assembly segment publically alleged that Congress leadership had demanded money from him in exchange of party mandate. "A senior Congress leader asked money from me to give me party ticket but I am not financially resourceful persons so party leadership denied me mandate despite the fact that I was a loyal soldier of the party", Choudhary Garu Ram told the gathering with choked voice. "Those who have resources managed mandate and a loyalist like me is abandoned by the party leadership due to my poverty", he said. Although Congress leadership has yet not reacted to the allegations of Choudhary Garu Ram, it is believed that this issue is likely to snowball into a big controversy. Most of the Congress leaders who were denied mandates are likely to exploit these allegations of Choudhary Garu Ram, who has openly levelled serious allegations. Choudhary Garu Ram is the only Congress leader who has publically levelled such allegations but there are number of other leaders who are "off the record" alleging that party mandates were sold by some party leaders. Choudhary Garu Ram has recently joined PDP and has been campaigning for the party in R S Pura and Suchetgarh assembly segments. |
