'Hina Bhat forced BJP to discard ideology' | | | Masood Malik Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 26: "Today's BJP is no different from the Valley-centric parties like the National Conference, Congress and other Kashmir-based parties. It, like these parties, is also Kashmir-centric". This was the general view of the persons with whom this correspondent met during the past four days to ascertain their views on the BJP and its stand on Article 370. Rohit Sharma, a post-graduate student in Jammu University, told that "he and many others like him had great hope in the BJP, but it disappointed us by not expelling Hina Bhat from the party". "It is Hina Bhat and other Kashmiris who are setting the agenda for the BJP. The BJP has discarded its ideology and old demand for the repeal of Article 370. We have lost our faith in the BJP leadership," Rohit said. Hina Bhat is the BJP candidate from Amira Kadal constituency in Kashmir. Two weeks ago, she had opposed repeal of Article 370. She had told reporters that she would pick up gun if Article 370 was repealed. She administered threat in response to MoS PMO Jitendra Singh's statement on Article 370. Inaugurating the party's media cell in Jammu, Jitendra Singh had told reporters: "All issues (including Article 370) which have been part of the BJP manifesto all these years will be part of the agenda. They will continue to be so". Sunita Gupta and Abdul Qadir, students; Balak Ram, a businessman; Ashutosh, a teacher; Daljit Singh, an auto driver; Chajju Ram, a barber; and many others expressed similar views against the BJP. They said: "The BJP cannot achieve its Mission 44+ if it ignores the sentiments of Jammu and Ladakh and promotes Kashmiris like Hina Bhat," adding that "the BJP cannot take Jammu and Ladakh for a ride". "The BJP may not open its account in Kashmir by abandoning its ideology, but it would lose many in Jammu and Ladakh," Ashutosh said. Sunita Gupta was more critical, she said: "The BJP buckled under Hina's pressure and did not release its manifesto. The BJP cannot do like this. We did not vote for the BJP in the Lok Sabha election for all this. We voted for the party because we believed that it will repeal Article 370 and bridge the gulf between the state and New Delhi". Interestingly, there were many in the BJP who also expressed similar views. They expressed their helplessness, saying "they have no say in the party" and that "the party has been taken over by those who joined it recently for political gains". |
