Video games installed by Tourism Deptt at Mansar dysfunctional | Warranty period over, machines go useless | | Arun Singh ET Report Jammu, Nov 26: So unconcerned is Tourism Department for the development of tourism in Jammu region that the video games installed by it four years back in its cafeteria at the world famous Mansar lake have not been made operational as of today. While the machines, which cost Rs 24 lakh, remained unoperational for four years, their warranty period has expired now. Sources in Tourism Department told Early Times that Surinsar-Mansar Development Authority had purchased video games from M/s HG Electronics, Ahmedabad, at a cost of Rs 24 lakhs and installed them in the Mansar cafeteria building in 2010. They said that despite the lapse of four years after installation, the games had not been made operational for the public use due to non-availability of trained manpower and were lying unutilized in the office complex. Thus the procurement of games without proper planning has resulted in the wasteful expenditure of Rs 24 lakh, they added. "However, in order to rectify its error, the department made efforts to outsource the games in 2013, which did not materialize as the contractor on physical inspection declared the games non-operational," sources said. They said that after getting failed to convince the contractor, the department made several other efforts to make the video games operational but these too went in vain as the warranty period of the games had already expired and the chances of getting them repaired were rare. |
