After taking refuge in cowshed NGO helps Budgam family | MCC used as an excuse by officials | | Early Times Report
Budgam, Nov 27: With the announcement of dates for assembly elections in Jammu & Kashmir all the developmental activities have come to a standstill due to enforcement of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by the Election Commission of India (ECI). But inspite of the fact that relief and rehabilitation work have been kept out of MCC ambit, the Government officials are using MCC as an excuse for non execution of certain works which are of great importance especially those related to relief and rehabilitation. As per details available a newly constructed residential house of Mohammad Abdullah Lone a resident of remote Batwodder Bonen village tehsil Chadoora in central Kashmir's Budgam district was completely gutted in an incident of fire on 1st November. All the essential items which include furnishing, food grains, clothes were also destroyed completely in the fire incident. Neither the District Administration nor any other agency like District Red Cross Society provided any relief to this affected family which is forced to put up in a cow shed right now. The case for getting entitlement under Indira AwasYojna (IAY) is also pending in the concerned BDO office at Sursayar since Nov 1st when the incident took place and the officials are using Model Code of Conduct as an excuse. " None of the official from Govt paid any visit to me , even the local BDO or Tehsildar didn't come to have the damage assessment. I am entitled to get monetary compensation under Indira AwasJojna (IAY) , but the case hasn't been taken up yet. My file was kept pending for 15 days right from November 1st and on November 15th I was told to come after elections. Where shall I go in these chilly days along with my family. I have shifted my cattle and sheep to another place and right now I am occupying the cow shed to keep my family alive. Had there been no help from an NGO , I would have literally died " said Mohammad Abdullah while talking to Early Times. Pertinently one NGO Kashmir Centre for Community Development (KCCD) had provided some help to this family by providing utensils, blankets , ration and warm bedding items like mattress, quilts etc. " I have now been assured by the new BDO Chadoora who assumed the charge only two days back of full help and he has already taken up this case. I am sure he will help me out," Abdullah added. |
