GDC Udh. students protest on derogatory remark | Female teacher hits at female student’s dress code , faces wrath | | Deep Sharma Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 27: Students of Govt. Degree College Udhampur staged a protest on today against the college administration’s decision to stop them from wearing jeans and sleeveless tops on the campus. “Students are sensible enough to understand what to wear and what not to,” said the protesters. They also slammed the college administration for banning jeans and sleeveless tops on the campus and said that instead of protecting women from atrocities, the college is focusing on the dress code which does not hurts the sanctity of the college. One of the teachers of the college, under the condition of anonymity, said most of the big colleges of the country have banned dress code for the students. “It is for their own good. Considering the growing incidents of eve teasing, it is in their interest that they look sober,” said the teacher. However the incident contained another connotation that spiraled up the fury in the college among the students on the dress code when one of the female teacher of the college passed an unhealthy comment to a female student telling her that she looked like an ‘ostrich’ in a particular dress. Her remark fuelled the entire college as boys and girls gathered and started sloganeering against the computer teacher who had passed on the derogatory remark to the female student. The incidence was brought into the notice of the principal of the college S S Balwal, who sensibly prevailed over the situation and brought everything under the control Talking to Early Times , the principal narrated the entire anecdote held in the college and assured the student that the female teacher who had passed on the derogatory remark against the female student would be booked and disciplinary action initiated against her if found guilty. The principal also said that though it was the college affair , it was given the political hue by the outsiders that made the matter worse and left the situation go out of control. “ I would make it sure that the disciplinary action be taken against the guilty and if the need arose the guilty would also be penalized and may face suspension from the college,” principal Balwaal said. |
