Stung by dissent and complacency, party counts desperately on Modi's oratory | Beyond BJP's mission 44+ | | Abodh Sharma Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 27: While even BJP sympathizers have been confessing from the very beginning that party's hyped mission 44+ was exaggerated and irrational, the complacency and dissent within the party over distribution of tickets has caused unfathomable damage to the fortunes of the party and the party is now counting desperately on the oratory of Prime minister Narendra Modi who is scheduled to address several rallies ahead of remaining four phases of ensuing Assembly elections here. Sources within the party divulge that panic is gradually but surely gripping the cadre as well as the leadership as party candidates in Jammu East, Gandhi Nagar, Nagrota and several other seats are either facing dissent from within the party or party's complacency in prolonging suspense over mandate has deprived the candidates of crucial time for campaigning and making inroads in alien constituencies. Rajesh Gupta, the former corporator of the JMC, who is party candidate from Jammu East has faced open dissent from Yudhvir Sethi, who was strong aspirant for mandate. Gupta is pitted against strong Congress candidate Vikram Malhotra and dissent may cost BJP candidate dearly. Similarly, Party's official candidate from Gandhinagar, Kavinder Gupta, whose name was cleared pretty late, may not be facing open dissent, but sources say there is a strong public sentiment against him as many within the party were hopeful of Aditi Sharma, Sunil Sethi or Manmohan Choudhary getting mandate from this seat. Kavinder who does not reside in Gandhi Nagar has been deprived of crucial time ahead of polling to make a niche for himself in an unfamiliar constituency. Nagrota has been another example of BJP's complacency wherein party announced mandate in favour of state president's brother too late compromising on its principle of not promoting families of the leaders and stirring a section of public sentiment against it which hoped that Ajatshtru Singh would be given party mandate after the latter joined BJP. Keeping up a brave face in public, sources divulge that panic has slowly started gripping the party leadership which have been exaggerated by unprecedented turn out in the first phase of polling. However, party is desperately depending upon the oratory skills of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is known to create indelible mark on the psyche of his audiences and is scheduled to address several rallies across the region in coming weeks. |
