Jammu, Nov 28: As a part of their environmental cum natural heritage awareness, student of Government Memorial Science College Jammu (GMSC) on Friday visited at Mahamaya Environmental Park under the guidance of Prof Veerji and Prof Pinky Manhas. According to press release, while focusing on tree antiquity, tree nomenclature and tree utilities, Tree Talk crusader OP Sharma highlighted that monkey faced tree mallotus philippensis Kamilla in dogri called Rohini or Sindhuriya in Hindi is a medecinal tree of shivaliks ,fruits yield a red fabric dye ,fruits a major food source for dwindling Kala Fakhta called Kalmoonha in Dogri. Putranjiva roxburghii called Jiyopota in Dogri is a store house of unique phytochemicals like Putrol ,Putral,Putrone ,Putroic acid useful for the protection of developing child and named as Childlife tree or Lucky bean tree ,tree chosen by Maharaja Gulab Singh to have Rajtilak under its shade beside river Chenab Akhnoor ,location now famous as Jiyopota ghat. Nadeem Qadri noted environmental lawyer ,Manjit Singh social activist while interacting with participants highlighted the need for better cleanliness ,name plates on all trees ,display of green consumer wooden art ,craft , artefacts ,medicinal ayurvedic unani formulations and wild fruits and vegetables under Ecotourism and Nature interpretation for the benefit of students and visitors in the park. |
