Dead, retired officials, politicians, senior professors assigned poll duties | JU plays crude joke with J&K election authority! | | Syed Junaid Hashmi Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 28: Jammu University (JU) has seemingly played a crude joke with state administration by allegedly deliberately providing erroneous list of employees available with it for conducting Assembly elections in various constituencies of Jammu district. If the sources are to be believed, the University administration which was reprimanded by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Jammu Ajeet Kumar Sahu for not providing list of employees timely responded immediately and sent the only available list of employees. They added that the list contains names of several candidates who are contesting elections and several others who are either out of country since years or have retired long ago or have died or are working but not available on the day of polling. A look at the list explains all. Assistant Professor in Urdu Dr. Chaman Lal, who is a contesting candidate of NC from Ramban assembly segment and currently on leave from the department, has been asked to attend the training of Presiding Officer on November 30 in Government College for Women (GCW) Gandhinagar. Alongwith Dr. Chaman, state president of ABVP Dr. Varinder Kaundal has also been asked to attend this important meeting. Kaundal is a non-state subject and hence, the state government should have first verified the details and then assigned him the task of being a presiding officer on polling day. Assistant Professor in Mathematics Prof. Kuldeep Charak, who is in the electoral fray from Bhaderwah, has also been called for the training. Though his elections are over but contesting candidate cannot be made presiding officer in any polling station yet Jammu University has shown him available for election duties. Suresh Babu, who is currently in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and on five year leave from Jammu University, is also in the list. He has also been appointed Presiding Officer. A mentally upset Dr. Girdhari Lal Wazir, who stopped coming to university several years ago, has also been assigned election duty. Dr. Baljinder Singh, who is now in Delhi University, has also been shown as available for election duties by the authorities in Jammu University. President of the employees union Sunil Sahi, who has gone to Mumbai with university cricket team and is not expected to attend the meeting, has been made part of the list. Alongwith him, the other officer who has been directed to attend the meeting is Ram Singh. He too is in Mumbai and unlikely to attend the meeting. Besides this major goof-up, several retired employees are in the list. Some of these include B.K. Khajuria, Mukhtiyar Ahmed, Kulbhushan Kumar, Roshan Lal, Harbans Singh and Janak Singh. An employee namely Tilak Raj who is no more in this world too has been assigned the poll duty. A number of other faculty members who have already fixed schedules and are likely to attend various national and international seminars during the polling days have also been asked to attend the poll meeting and thereafter, be part of poll party. On being asked, a official of the State Government said "We will look into this goof-up and punish the delinquent officials. How can they make fool of state administration? They have befooled us." University officials are mum over the issue and a blame game has started over who the spoiler was. |
