SRINAGAR, Nov 30: Falah-e-Aam Trust (FAT) Jammu and Kashmir, an off shoot of Jameat-e- Islami which looks after the schools run by it is learnt to have come out with a circular that the teachers with the qualification of 12th pass will be terminated from the services. The communiqué of the FAT reads that the teachers with low qualification do not fit into the present day requirements. The teachers who have been serving in the schools run by the FAT have termed this as an act of highhandedness and back breaking too.
"I have been serving the schools run by FAT for the last 30 years and the order that teachers with low qualification will be terminated from the services has virtually broken my back. It is equal to kick in the abdomen of the poor people like me," said Rameez Ahmad (name changed) a teacher of FAT wishing anonymity.
Rameez went on saying that if the order is implemented, it will deprive many people from their livelihood. He said that FAT has become workshop of the idle people who instead of improving the learning conditions in the schools run by it, pass on the cruel judgment.
Falah-e-Aam Trust is not in the good books as for as its relations with the teachers is concerned. There is a general perception among the people and more so teachers that the FAT has failed time and again in fulfilling the legitimate demands of its teachers.
"The teachers of the FAT wanted to save some amount from their meagre salary as contributory provident fund (CPF) and the process started in 2007. But it was stopped in 2009 as the authorities said that it is un-Islamic. The case was fought in the court and the decision was given in favour of the teachers," said Mudasir Ahmad (name changed), a teacher. Mudasir said the motive behind the termination of low qualified teachers from the services of FAT is simply an excuse because they have become an economic burden on the shoulders of the Trust.
When contacted, Ghulam Mohammad Mir, Chairman FAT termed the reports of termination of the low qualified teachers from their services as baseless and far from the reality. He clarified that new recruits should be at least graduates who will teach the schools.
"How can we think of terminating the teachers who are in service for quite a long time now? What we have decided is that the youth with a minimum qualification of graduation will be engaged in the FAT. Further we have decided that the teachers who are working on the contractual basis and whose qualification is not more than 12th pass shall be terminated," said Mir.
