JAMMU, Dec 13: Outgoing Chief Minister and working president of the National Conference Omar Abdullah instead of appreciating the BJP is attacking it. He is telling his communal constituency in the Kashmir Valley that the BJP would erode the state's special status and change the state's demography by repealing the State Subject Laws if it succeeded in achieving its Mission 44+ and forming the next government in the state.
"It's not that BJP is eyeing 44+ seats in the legislative assembly but their actual mission is to erode the special status enjoyed by the state and they want to begin with the State Subject Law by virtue of which they will try to erode the identity, multi-pluralistic culture and the Kashmiriyat of the state," he on Friday said. "Mission 44+ is extended version of BJP's ideology which is entirely based on 'Ek Vidhan, Ek Pradhan aur Ek Nishan' (one country, one constitution, and one national emblem) and their aim is only to weaken the special status of Jammu & Kashmir," he also said while urging the Kashmiri Muslims not to vote for the BJP candidates.
Omar Abdullah's whole attack on the BJP was misplaced - misplaced in the sense that the BJP has turned more Valley-centric than even the NC itself and other Kashmiri parties. He should have hailed the BJP for the simple reason that the BJP, which got prepared and printed "400 copies of election manifesto before November 20", did not release it because it had talked about Article 370 and held out several other promises. For instance, the BJP election manifesto, according to insiders, had said that the BJP will change the nomenclature of the state from the state of Jammu & Kashmir to the state of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, organize a debate on Article 370 to prepare ground for its abrogation and said in clear terms that the BJP was committing to abrogating it as it was the root cause of all the evils facing the people of the state. The BJP election manifesto had also, according to credible sources in the party, had also said that the BJP-led NDA government would extend all the "beneficial central laws to the state which have not been applied to the state so far" and that "it will retain Armed Forces Special Powers Act" as long as the state remains gripped by the secessionist violence.
Omar Abdullah knows that the state's special status could not be eroded as long as the anti-people, anti-democratic, anti-refugee and divisive Article 370 remains part of the Indian Constitution, but he is so desperate to win a few seats in the Valley that he has unleashed a misinformation campaign against the BJP which has proved by its words and actions that it can go to any extent to appease the Kashmiri Muslims and cultivate fanatics in the Valley. Omar Abdullah also knows that Home Minister Rajnath Singh and a number of other senior BJP leaders have not once but a number of times after November 15 reassured the Kashmiri Muslims that it is for them to take a decision on Article 370. Article 370 will remain if they want it and it will go if they want it to go, they have repeatedly said. Omar Abdullah also knows that the BJP ditched refugees from west Pakistan, daughters of the state married outside the state, Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes and the entire population of Jammu province by toeing the Kashmiri line on Article 370 and yet he is denouncing the BJP.
Omar Abdullah and other Kashmiri leaders need to review their stand on the BJP, as the BJP is outraging the sensitivities of the nationalist people in the state in its desperate bid to accord legitimacy to the politics of communalism and secessionism being played by fanatics in Kashmir.
