Security grid upgraded following Peshawar incident | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 17: Following slaughter of 141 people, including 132 school students, in a major terrorist strike in Peshawar in Pakistan the entire security grid is being upgraded in Jammu and Kashmir. Official sources said that various educational institutions, especially in the border areas, of Jammu and Kashmir were being placed under added surveillance of intelligence and security agencies to prevent militants, operating in the state, from enacting Peshawar type incident. Sources said that troops guarding the border in Jammu and Kahsmir have directed to initiate measures for preventing a single militant from crossing into Jammu and Kashmir. These instructions have issued following the recent incident of militant attack on an Army camp in which 11 soldiers were eliminated. Defence Ministry officials are of the opinion that those militant who were responsible for Uri attack had crossed into the valley in recent weeks. In addition to this various state and central intelligence, agencies have asked to coordinate their efforts and pool information so that security forces could launch counter insurgency operations on specific intelligence inputs. Reports said that various Government installations and offices were being brought under heavy security cover. The Army and the BSF and CRPF units have been told to upgrade security cover in and around their units and camps to ensure that no militant was able to sneak into the camp in Army fatigue as had been witnessed in Peshawar. |
