HC directs Chief Engineer R&B, three DCs to appear in person | Authorities to provide shelter shed to flood affected immediately | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 17: While asking authorities to provide shelter shed to flood affected persons immediately, the J&K High Court has directed Chief Engineer R&B (PWD) and Deputy Commissioners of Anantnag, Pulwama and Shopian to appear in person before it on tomorrow. Hearing a Public Interest Litigation, a Division Bench comprising of Justice M H Attar and Justice BL Bhat passed the directions after hearing Advocate General. The Advocate General produced affidavit filed on behalf of the Chief Engineer by Javed Ahmad Bukhari presently posted as Executive Engineer (R&B) Truck Terminal Divn. Srinagar.He also submitted that Chief Engineer informed him that because of some personal problem, he had to go to Jammu.The Advocate General also submitted that the affidavits of Deputy Commissioners are also ready and same could not be filed by him, as he was out of station. However he assured the Court that affidavits will be filed before next date."The Chief Engineer shall file affidavit detailing out the compelling reasons for going to Jammu one day before the case was listed," the court said, observing that the issue involved in the PIL were of considerable public interest as same pertain to flood affected people. "Its consideration can't brook further delay. The floods victims have to be provided shelter sheds immediately," the court said. The Bench accordingly directed listing of the PIL on Thursday and asked the Chief Engineer, R&B, Kashmir, Deputy Commissioners of Anantnag, Pulwama and Shopian to remain present before the Court. |
