Assets of 10 legislators show 1000% increase in 6 years

Jammu, Dec 17: The legislators in Jammu and Kashmir have achieved a unique distinction wherein the assets of common masses have increased meagrely but assets of nearly 10 legislators have recorded sea change, witnessing thousand times increase in last six years.
Controversial Congress leaders and Medical Education Minister Taj Mohi-ud-Din's assets have witnessed increase of nearly 1700 percent, since last assembly elections in 2008.
The analysis, conducted by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Jammu and Kashmir Election Watch, is based on the self-sworn affidavits filed before the election commission.
Analysis revealed that the growth of average assets of 45 MLAs contesting elections in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly has been close to double since the last election six years ago. 45 re-contesting MLAs have shown an average asset growth of Rs. 1.60 Crores over six years.
The average assets of these 45 re-contesting MLAs in 2008 was Rs 1.49 crores, the ADR points, adding that the average assets of the MLAs as declared in their affidavits in 2014 is Rs 3. 10 crores. The average asset growth of re-contesting MLAs is Rs 1,60 crores. The percentage average asset growth of re-contesting MLAs is 107 per cent, the ADR points.
The highest increase in assets is of Taj Mohi-ud-din of Congress from Uri constituency who has declared maximum increase in total assets with an increase of Rs 18.31 Crores from Rs 1.11 Crore in 2008 to Rs 19.43 Crore in 2014.
Total assets of Dr. Bashir Ahmad shah National Conference candidate from Bijbehara constituency, have increased by Rs 8.82 crores, from Rs 1.05 crores in 2008 to Rs 9.88 crore in 2014 followed by Abdul Gaffar Sofi of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from Home Shalibugh constituency whose total assets have risen by Rs 4.17 crores, from Rs 8.6 crore in 2008 to Rs 12.77 crores in 2014 and Mubarak Ahmed Gul of NC from Idgah constituency has shown an asset increase of Rs 3.59 crores from Rs 56.15 lakhs to Rs 4.15 crores.
PDP's Syed Basharat Ahmmed Bukhari of PDP from Sangrama constituency has shown an asset increase of Rs 2.48 crores, from 32.60 lakhs in 2008, to 2.81 crores in 2014.
Abdul Majid Wani of Congress from Doda constituency has shown an asset increase of Rs. 2.09 crores, from 31 lakhs to 2.41 crores followed by Jagdish Raj Spolia of congress from Basohli constituency whose total an assets increase of Rs. 2.09 crores from 23 lakhs to 2.32 crores. Nazir Ahmad Kham Gurzi of NC from Gurez has shown an assets increase of Rs. 1.99 crores, from 12 lakhs to 1.93 crores.
Similarly, Mohammad Khalil Bandh of PDP from Pulwama constituency has shown an assets increase of Rs. 1.91 crores from 2 lakhs to 1.93 crores.
Haji Mohammad Ashraf Ganie of NC from Sopore, whose total assets increase of Rs. 1.80 crores, from 90 thousands to 1.81 crores. Congress leader from Banihal constituency Vikar Rassol Wani has shown an assets increase of Rs. 88.75 lakhs from 5.54 lakhs to 94.29 lakhs and Ashwani Sharma from Bishnah constituency has shown an assets increase of 80 lakhs from 2.28 lakhs to 82 lakhs in 2014.
