Militant killed in Kolipora encounter

KUPWARA, Dec 18: An unidentified militant was gunned down by security forces in an encounter that ensued early morning between security forces and militants in Salkote area of Kupwara District in north Kashmir today.
According to police, "acting on a specific intelligence about the presence of a 2-3 militants in a residential house in Pir Mohalla of Kolipora village in Salkote area of Kupwara district.
Government forces laid a cordon in the area after getting a tip-off about the presence of militants in a residential house in Salkote area on early morning of Thursday, official said.
Official added that, "the militants hiding inside the house fired upon the forces as they approached the house, after which forces launched an operation against the militants.
"A gunfight between militants and forces resulted in killing of an unidentified militant," the police official informed.
Police further informed some arms and ammunition from the encounter site was recovered along with the body of the unidentified militant.
However police official said that one militant has so far died in the encounter, whereas it was not clear yet that how many militants are hiding inside the house,"
The identification of the militant has not been ascertained so far. The search operation in the area was going on till the last reports came in.
Meanwhile in another incident Jammu and Kashmir Police has arrested a former militant on charges of raping a woman in Kupwara district.
Early times have learnt from reliable sources that, "court had issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against 'rape' accused Bashir Ahmad Dar, a resident of Buhama village in Kupwara district, the accused is a former militant.
However a police team headed by a head constable was deputed to implement the court orders and arrest the accused.
Police traced the accused that was hiding in a house at Kawari village in Kupwara district. "When the police reached the house, the accused lobbed a grenade on them, resulting in injury to a constable, sources said.
However the injured constable was shifted to nearby hospital for treatment, later on the police showed bravery and were able to overpower the accused and arrest him on the spot, sources informed.
