Grants bail to Lakhvi soon after Peshawar massacre
Pak's double face on terrorism exposed

Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 19: A Pakistani court granting bail to Mumbai terror attack mastermind Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi has exposed double face of the neighboring country on terrorism. The terror mastermind was granted bail two days after terrorists attacked an Army school in Peshawar and shot dead more than 140 school going kids.
Lakhvi was granted bail a day after Indian Parliament passed a resolution, expressing outrage over the massacre of children by terrorists in Peshawar. Pakistan released the accused instead of handing him over to India. The decision of a Pakistani court to grant bail to Lakhvi evoked strong reaction from India and rest of the world following which the Pakistan government tried to control the damage and booked him for three more months and ensured that he is not released.
A legal expert while talking to Early Times said that Lakhvi getting bail has proved that the Pakistan government has filed a weak case against Lakhvi, had it been a watertight case the anti-terrorism court in Pakistan would not have considered his bail plea. "He (Lakhvi) has been detained again under international pressure and he would be released as soon as the people forget Peshawar massacre," the expert said. "If Pakistan is really serious in punishing him (Lakhvi) his trial should be held in a fast track court and he should be hanged along with other terrorists or Pakistan should hand him over to India," the expert added.
Many people are of the opinion that if Pakistan fails to act against terrorists and adopts double standards there is every possibility of country facing more such attacks in future and turning into a rogue state where only lawlessness would prevail. "Mumbai carnage is still afresh in minds of Indians as it left 166 innocents dead and created fear throughout the country. The memories of Mumbai attack are too bitter and no Indian can forget it. Terrorists targeting Mumbai was attack on India's integrity and it is really painful for every Indian to know that no action has been taken against the terror attack mastermind," he said. "Granting bail to Lakhvi has added insult to the injuries of Indians and is a provocative act. No one can stop India from retaliating now."
According to the media reports Lakhvi had become a father while remaining behind bars. One wonders what kind of court is there in Pakistan and what kind of jail the country has? "Pakistan had arrested Lakhvi to hoodwink the international community and India. His arrest was nothing more than eyewash. He was granted bail a day after Pakistan lifted moratorium on the death penalty. He was being set free so that he cannot be traced in future," opined an analyst.
He alleged that people who masterminded the Mumbai attacks were backed by Pakistan establishment. "It's strange that we are expecting justice from the killers and conspirators," the analyst added.
He questioned the silence of Kashmiri separatists when terrorists attacked Mumbai. "None of the so called Hurriyat leaders could muster courage at that point of time to condemn the Mumbai attacks as they wanted to keep their bosses in good books. They (separatists) also stand exposed," the analyst said. Pertinently, Mumbai attacker Ajmal Kasab, executed in India, and David Coleman Headley, convicted in the US for planning the attacks, had identified Lakhvi as the operations mastermind for the 26/11 attack on Mumbai in which 166 people were killed.
In July 2009, the Pakistan government admitted to Lakhvi's role in a dossier handed over to India.
Sources said evidence on Lakhvi included his voice transcripts handed over by British and US intelligence agencies to Pakistan. "The promise to prosecute Lakhvi and other identified perpetrators of the Mumbai attacks was the basis of the US efforts to ensure India did not retaliate," Pakistan's Ambassador to the US in 2008 Hussain Haqqani had said.
US officials often complained that according to their intelligence, Lakhvi was allowed to stay in touch with terror colleagues from prison.

"Mumbai carnage is still afresh in minds of Indians as it left 166 innocents dead and created fear throughout the country. The memories of Mumbai attack are too bitter and no Indian can forget it. Terrorists targeting Mumbai was attack on India's integrity and its really painful for every Indian to know that no action has been taken against the terror attack mastermind."
