Flying squad recovers cash carried in violation of MCC

RAJOURI, Dec 19: Rs 8 lacs reportedly to be distributed among the people to lure them to vote in favor of BJP candidate contesting from Kalakote constituency, have been recovered by the flying squad today.
Flying squad, constituted by the District Election Officer (DEO) on the directions of Election Commission of India (ECI), and headed by Mohd Iqbal, Naib tehsildar today intercepted a car and recovered the cash from one Kuldeep Raj Sharma, a BJP supporter while heading towards Rajouri from Kalakote.
Mohd Iqbal while talking to The Early Times said that a 'naka' was laid by the flying squad with the help of police party on Kalakote road near Bheragoa village.
During frisking of the vehicles flying squad seized a bag from Tavera vehicle bearing registration No JK20-4578 being carried by one Kuldeep Raj Sharma r/o Sair (Kalakote).
Kuldeep Raj along with, driver Rahul Sharma were brought to police station Kalakote and counting and marking of the currency notes was done.
Mohd Iqbal said that after legal formalities a case will be registered against those who have violated Model Code of Conduct (MCC) while during initial investigation Kuldeep Raj Sharma informed the authorities that he was carrying the money to make payments to those whose vehicles were hired by the party during election campaign.
Meanwhile on Thursday Station House Officer (SHO) Budhal Police Station has also recovered Rs 4 lacs from the possession of a minor boy during frisking near Budhal town.
Pritam Singh s/o Chamail Singh r/o Mallikot (in Reasi district) informed that he was on way to handover the cash to one Mohinder Singh , businessman at Budhal from whom they are purchasing items for their shop at Malikot.
Parmodh Singh , SHO said that Mohinder was also called by the police and he has also confirmed business transactions with Chamail Singh.
The amount is still in the custody of police and the matter is under investigation.
