Air, rail service remain affected in fog-hit Jammu | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 19: The winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir today witnessed another coldest day while air and rail services remained affected due to fog. "Due to dense fog and harsh weather conditions, departure of two flights was cancelled from Jammu airport while some of the flights arrived late from their scheduled time in the afternoon," an official at the airport here said. The arrival and departure of trains was also delayed for four to five hours due to the fog that gripped the winter capital for the second consecutive day. The winter capital yesterday recorded season's minimum 4.5 degrees Celsius, which was five degree below from normal thus forcing the people either to protect themselves with warm clothes or stay indoors. "The sky will remain mainly clear with mist and haze," a Met official said, adding that the maximum and minimum temperatures till afternoon was recorded about 18 and 5 degree respectively. He said there would be no respite from the chill in the coming days and due to western disturbances, the cold weather conditions would further intensify. The schools, meanwhile, witnessed low attendance due to cold while the people particularly the roadside vendors were seen burning firewood to protect themselves from the prevailing weather condition. The upper reaches in Bhaderwah also witnessed fresh snowfall further intensifying the cold conditions in the mountainous belts of the region. |
