Azad meets Bangladesh President; reaffirms commitment to Indo-Bangla cooperation

New Delhi, Dec 19: Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, GhulamNabi Azad had a meeting with visiting Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid today at Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi and reaffirmed commitment to Indo-Bangladesh cooperation in alls spheres.
Bangladesh President is on a five day official visit to India in order to carry forward the strong Indo-Bangladesh partnership to a higher pedestal.
Eulogizing the role of Bangladesh President in the liberation struggle, Ghulam Nabi Azad said that inspite of heavy odds, Adbul Hamid displayed unflinching resolve till the goal of freedom and liberation was accomplished by Bangladesh.
During interaction Azad also paid rich tributes to the leading light of Bangladesh freedom struggle Sheikh Mujibur Rehman and all his great accomplices, including the millions of people who worked tirelessly and zealously for attaining the mission of freedom for their country.
Admiring his wisdom and statesmanship, Azad said that our country greatly values the personal commitment and resolve of His Excellency President of People's Republic of Bangladesh towards expanding the bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh.
Appreciating Bangladesh's rapid success in fighting poverty, hunger and disease, Azad said that it is heartening to see the impressive strides made by Bangladesh on human development, healthcare, education, women empowerment and other socio-economic fronts.
Referring to his recent meeting with Bangldesh Foreign Minsiter, Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, Leader of Opposition said that a wide-ranging discussion was held in a very cordial and frank atmosphere and that India as a nation is very clear about the historic relationship and the common values which the two countries share. Azad said that India has always believed that a strong, stable and prosperous Bangladesh is in India's interest and that we remain fully committed to be a partner in the progress and prosperity of Bangladesh. Our country in general and Congress Party in particular, attach highest importance to our relations with Bangladesh - a close and friendly neighbor with which we have much in common", remarked Azad.
