478 complaints of MCC violation, 100 injured in poll violence season

Srinagr, Dec 19 : Amid 478 complaints of violation of moral code of conduct (MCC), cash and liquor were allegedly used to woo the voters. According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO),Umang Narula, out of 478 complaints of different nature related to the violation of all important Model Code of Conduct (MCC) received from various stakeholders during the ongoing poll process, at least 248 complaints have so far been disposed-off and remaining 232 are under investigation. He said that each such complaint has been carefully scrutinized and disposed-off as per the norms of Election Commission of India and in order to ensure free, fair and transparent elections in Jammu and Kashmir; several precautionary measures were also taken in this regard. As many as 11725 licensed arms were deposited and 6 licences were impounded, 2511 cases wereput-up under preventive sections of Cr PC, 1793 persons bounded over and 3045 persons were bounded down under Cr PC and as many as 5633 non-bilable warrants were also executed, while as 92 incidents of violence related to the poll campaigning were reported from different parts of the state and all such incidents resulted in injury to 117 people. The details reveal that politicians used liquor, cash and kind to lure voters as according to figures, the flying squads constituted by the authorities seized 1305 CGI sheets, 80 pipes, 40 vehicles, 19 bottles of liquor, cash amounting to Rs. 110 lakh and other items relating to the publicity material in violation to the MCC from different parts of the state. Pertinently during fourth phase of polling in Kashmir which covered Srinagar, Anantnag and Shopian Districts besides parts of Jammu division, sources said that votes were bargained in high profile Amira Kadal, Khanyar , Sonawar, Eidgah and Habakadal Constituencies, besides attempts of bogus voting were made by politicians in these and many other constituencies of Kashmir.
