Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec19 : NC working president and caretaker Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah is all set to leave for London soon after the results for the state assembly elections are out on December 23. Sources said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will leave for London anytime after the results are out for the state assembly elections to visit his ailing father who has undergone kidney-transplantation successfully in recent past. Sources said Omar will leave for London in either case. If his party suffers a defeat, Omar will resign quickly and leave for London to see his parents. However, he can defer the program by one week or more in case his party scores enough seats to form the next government in coalition with Congress. Omar presently in Jammu is waiting for results to come so that he can take a decision to see his father. Sources said as the Chief Minister campaigned vigorously but singularly for his party, he could not see his parents in London where his mother Molli donated her Kidney to his father, Dr. Farooq Abdullah.
Omar the lone son of his parents will leave for London anytime after the results to see his parents. Meanwhile all the political bigwigs of Jammu and Kashmir will be be watching the polling for the 20 seats of Jammu, Kathua and Rajouri in the fifth and final phase of the state assembly elections, the results of which will come on 23rd of this month.
For the first time since the first phase (23rd November), the entire leadership of the political spectrum including the PDP leadership, NC, Congress and BJP leadership will be watching the electioneering in the last phase of the elections with ease in Jammu as their engagement calendars for the day are blank. Even during the first four phases, the top leadership of all the political parties could not find time to rest. When voting was going on in one area, the political leaders would campaign for their respective candidates in another area. It is for the first time that the political leaders will be watching the polling in Jammu very keenly and closely. They have nothing to do for the day except to watch the electioneering in Jammu. However, PDP president, Mehbooba Mufti will be in Srinagar tomorrow overseeing the arrangements to be made by the party candidates for counting of votes on 23rd.
After a record voter turnout in the previous four phases in Kashmir Valley, there are expectations of a high voter turnout in Jammu,Kathua and Rajouri districts in Jammu region as well. Stage is set for the fifth and final leg of Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir tomorrow in which several high-profile candidates, including Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, will try their luck in 20 seats spread over three districts of Jammu amid a strong security deployment. As many as 213 candidates, including Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, Ministers Sham Lal Sharma, Raman Bhalla, Manohar Lal Sharma, Ajay Sadhotra, former MP and ministers Lal Singh, Talib Hussain (both BJP) and Jitendra Babu Singh and former Deputy Speaker Hyder Malik will be battling it out in this phase.
"All measures and arrangements have been put in place for tomorrow's polls," Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Division, Shant Manu said. Manu said 400 companies of security personnel (each company as approximately 100 personnel) will be deployed for tomorrow's polling apart from the regular deployment of police forces.
As many as 18,28,904 eligible voters, comprising 9,59,011 men and 8,69,891 women, are expected to exercise their franchise at 2,366 polling stations set up across the three border districts.
