ASP among six cops injured in Post poll violence in Kalakote

Rajouri, Dec 20: Six policemen including Additional SP(ASP) Rakesh Kumar were injured when some miscreants including supporters of some political parties clashed with police near Bali (Sialsui) on Jammu-Kalakote road today in post poll violence. Police sources said that some supporters of Abdul Ghani Choudhary BJP candidate and NC candidate Rashpal Singh from Kalakot constituency had some tiff over polling at Bali. "Meantime a police party escorting EVMs to Rajouri and led by Rakesh Kumar, ASP also reached the spot and reportedly tried to clear the road but was stopped by the supporters of both the candidates, sources said . Sources added, "While clearing the road the political activists clashed with police party during the melee ASP Rakesh Kumar and others received injuries while four vehicles hired by the police for election duties were also damaged by the stone pelting from the agitators." "Following stone pelting police for the protection of the EVMs was forced to use mild lathi charge and fired tear gas shells to disburse the mob, sources added. Dr Haseeb Mughal , SSP when contacted by the Early Times said that no EVM was damaged in the clash and additional police force have been rushed to bring the EVMs safely to Rajouri. "Some miscreants including supporters of BJP candidate have clashed with the police party carrying EVMs and deputed for security including sector officer ASP Rakesh Kumar, he said adding, "action against the miscreants involved in this incident will be taken under appropriate sections of law" SSP Rajouri said. Meanwhile police also used mild cane charge to disburse about 200 supporters of a religious leader who were forcing the authorities to allow them to cast their votes after 5 pm. "Reports said that the protestors reportedly had gone to Kolkata with Swami ji reached at Suderbani after 4 pm as their train reached 4 hours late at Jammu and they were pressurizing the election authorities to allow them to cast their votes, sources said.
