Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 20: As the polling for the fifth and final phase to the Jammu and Kashmir state assembly ended peacefully this evening, the major stake holders PDP, BJP, NC and Congress have reportedly started cozying up each other for the next government formation.
Reliable sources told Early Times today that with PDP showing cold shoulder to Congress for varied reasons, the latter is once again eyeing on National Conference. Sources said the recent statement of PCC president, Professor Saifuddin Soz that " Congress has not permanently divorced NC" has come in the backdrop that PDP Patron, Mufti Muhammad Sayed has kept his cards close to his chest. Sources said that though PDP has decided to wait till results are out on December 23, however, it is very unlikely of the party to go with the Congress in case it falls short of the simple majority.
Sources said it was in this backdrop that Congress party is cozying up to NC in case PDP chooses to keep congress out. "I don't think we will need support of any party in government formation as we are going to sweep the polls" said Peerzada Mansur Ahmad of PDP. ' We are sure on one thing that the PDP is emerging as the single largest party; said Mansur.
However, political pundits suggest that PDP will need support for government formation in the state.
"No doubt PDP will be the single largest group in the assembly but it may need support for government formation" a senior journalist from Jammu told Early Times.
To a question, the journo said PDP will be respecting the verdict of the people of Jammu for change if it decides not to go with Congress for government formation.
He however, said the options for PDP are very limited as BJP has already decided not to enter into any post-poll alliance with any regional party.
Pertinently senior BJP leader and Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley has said that BJP will not join hands with any regional party to form the government. " ……We have no political relationship with these two regional parties (NC, PDP) as we have different ideologies" said Jaitley.
However, if the two months of the vigorous campaigning during which no party spared its opponents is taken into consideration, it will be difficult to find friends for anyone of them.
"However, politics even makes stranger bed- fellows, estranged fellows are destined to meet.
On Thursday evening when campaigning for the final phase ended, the scenario changed and Soz of congress all of a sudden developed sympathy towards NC.
The Congress and National Conference shared power in the state but split up just ahead of the assembly election. "I admit, we criticized Omar (Abdullah) government during campaign, but that was based on facts," he said, adding that the "non-existing Modi wave" has failed to dent Congress's position as the king-maker. "There is absolutely no possibility of any government in J&K without our support," he said. However, it is now only matter of time now. Everything will absolutely clear on 23 December.
