Mysterious death of newly wedded woman: Parents allege murder | | | Neeraj Badyal

SAMBA, Dec 21: Demanding justice, parents of a newly married woman who died mysteriously last Sunday alleged that she was murdered by her in-laws. Rama Devi, daughter of Mela Ram of Arjun Chak village of Hiranagar married to Davinder of village Khanwal Samba had died mysteriouslySunday last. However, it was reported that she had consumed poison and was brought to the District Hospital, Samba where Doctors pronounced her brought dead. Parents and family members of Rama Devi alleged that their daughter had not consumed poison but was eliminated under a conspiracy by her in laws. Rama was married to Davinder Kumar son of Vaishno Dutt of village Khanwal on April 2013.Davinder Kumar is an SPO in GRP. Accusing the police of being hand in glove with her in-laws, parents and family members of Rama alleged that the police had been trying to sweep the incident under carpet. "Rama was often harassed and tortured by her in-laws after she gave birth to a girl child five months ago" they alleged. My daughter was a victim of domestic violence as her in laws demanded more dowry. I made all efforts to settle the issue, but she continued to face violence at the hands of her husband Devinder and his father Vaishno Dutt," said Mela Ram, deceased father. Mela Ram Father of Rama claimed that Rama was killed by her in-laws and that they were projecting it as a suicide. No case was registered till the filing of the report. The agitated family members did not allow the completion of the cremation of the deceased and lodged a protest and demanded immediate arrest of Rama's husband and father-in-law. After getting the assurance of proper investigation in the case, the family members agreed to complete the cremation ceremony of Rama, which was done under tight police security. "The police was acting in a fair manner and police had recoded the statements of both the parties. The reason behind the death is yet to be ascertained. Once the autopsy report is out, we will initiate the proceedings," said senior police officer at Samba.
