Early Times Report

SAMBA, Dec 21: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is expected to emerge as the single largest party likely to win 30 to 37 seats.
After the conclusion of first phase of the elections, experts gave PDP around 28-32 seats. However, as the process progressed, PDP started to push others far behind. Now experts believe the tally may go up to 37 seats.
The PDP may not have star campaigners like Modi, Raj Babber and others available but it has successfully managed to make people across the state believe that it was the alternative available to them.
The PDP has won a lot of good will during 2002-05 when it led the coalition rule.
Not only in Kashmir, according to information available with Early Times, the PDP has made inroads in Jammu region as well.
In Poonch, Mendhar, Darhal, it is expected to perform better. The PDP popularity has dealt a severe blow to BJP's mission 44 +.
If PDP gets the 37 seats then independents and others will play a major role in government formation and in such an eventuality PDP will prefer to go to the independents.
