Service voters resent denial of voting rights | | | Early Times Report
KATHUA, Dec 21: Several employees deputed for Assembly Election duty in Kathua District could not cast their votes as their votes were allegedly not prepared by Returning Officers (ROs) Bani, Basohli and Billawar. ROs of these Assembly constituencies have issued votes to only few employees and ignored the others with the reasons best known to the authorities. The employees when expressed resentment on December18 at Hiranagar, Kathua, Basohli and Billawar polling stations established for the employees for casting their votes were assured that they will get the chance to cast the vote till December 22 but RO Bani when contacted today refused to prepare the votes of deputed employees. Nearly 400 employees of Kathua District and 150 employees of Bani constituency could not vote due to the inefficiency of the administration. The employees have requested the Election Commission of India and Chief Electoral Officer, J&K to enquire the matter and take action against the officers who have denied the employees their constitutional right of casting the vote. President Employee Coordination Committee Amar Nath Thakur said that RO Hiranagar threatened him to recommend the dismissal from service when he raised the issue of employees voting. The leaders demanded that arrangement should be made on December 2014 to enable them to cast their vote. |
